12th Feb 17 "Novice " ride

Andy and I arrived at Toms place for 8.45 where his kind wife provided bacon sarnies and tea to prepare us for the cold day ahead.

As I travelled to our meeting point of St Blazey MX it became obvious that the breakfast had overloaded me somewhat and I have never been so glad to see a toilet that was left unlocked blankstare

We welcomed some usual faces as wel as some new members

Riding were :-

Phill

Andy

Squid

Pete W

Tom H ( on my Honda )

Frosty +1

Sharon + 3

Steve

Devon Jeff

Martin G

13 riders in total so quite a convoy

After a little balls up near Lostwithiel I got my head around using a 50:1 map on the road angel and headed off towards Newham lane and onwards . I not going to list every lane but once I started riding I quickly realised I had included quite a few technical lanes for a novice ride .

I probably missed most of the excitement being at the front but I split the group at Railway lane and Tom led the keen ones down into the water/mud . Squid had a little swim and I think a couple of others joined him . Steve had the best plan - attack.  Once we regrouped we headed to Looe Mills byway where a rider on the Ktm had , what seemed like , quite a nasty off .  At this  point I did consider shortening the route but we soldiered on .

Bit of road work up to our old smelly friend Wisewandra ( Trenance farm) where much fun ( for most of us ) was had . One more lovely lane to Tideford then to Trerulefoot for dinner . Picking off a few lanes en route we ended up across the water at Lerryn then it was Newham lane as our final lane . A few riders peeled off and headed home at this point leaving about 6 of us to go back to St Blazey .

Squid didnt believe me when I told him his trailer wheel nuts were loose but Andy convinced him in the end .

Overall it wasnt my best route as its quite tricky to plan a flowing ride when trying to miss out a few awkward lanes but I enjoyed it on the little KE which did very well . It even did a bit of 2 up work ! I did return with bugger all in the way of brakes and a badly bent / broken footpeg though.

Many thanks to all that rode and helped everyone out. Its all about teamwork in a big group like that .

I will be doing a much easier novice ride sometime , prob down west where its a bit less technical so keep an eye on the forum if you may be interested.

...and i bet the st blazey mx staff were happy to turn up to a blocked bog on monday morning! biggrin

it was a good route, with tom & i doubling up on the tec duties. we witnessed the chap having a face-down rest moment, although the bike having a lie-down on top of him probably wasn't that comfy?? after a couple of ibuprofen and a pep-talk from martin he was ok and carried on riding. respect for that, it looked like a painful off (sorry chap can't remember your name but i think you had blue trousers on?)

i can confirm trenance farm was definitely smelly, i myself had a little play in a neighbouring field as a couple of riders decided to stop on the corner, meaning i would have had to put feet down in a massive puddle, which no doubt would've ended up with me having a swim, so i diverted into the field wink

twas good to get a few new riders join us, as well as martin returning from an injured ankle (hows it feeling today?), my own ankle is pretty sore today, after the bike landed on me during my own little off towards the end of the day. hosing down the bike later on also confirmed that i had broken my exhaust mount, resulting in a melted indicator from the dislodged exhaust no

ah well, well worth it for a good long ride. dunno how many miles we did in the end? was predicted 70 odd, and we was out for around 6hrs so a good day all round!

cheers phill for organising, leading and bringing my bike in your van. cheers tom (& missus) for use of warm workshop to get changed, use of pressure washer and bacon sarnies and coffee.

cheers everyone else for turning up and contributing to a good ride.

squid... i hope your trailer wheel didn't fall off on the way home?

Good day thanks Phill and everyone else for making it enjoyable.

I might add that Squids swim was more like him and his bike were baptised ( a dunk right under) must have been cold.

Hope the chaps leg is ok today looked like quite a hard fall, I saw him lying there not movin and was all set take his wallet and siphon his petrol then realised it was his wife was ridding the bike behind wink so had to take the helpful approach.

Hope to see some of the new faces again sometime.

Fair play to the guy who came off, really wasnt his day as no sooner had he gotten going he went for a swim in the river. I probably would have had a sense of humour failure and gone home at that point.

Will dig through my video footage and try to get something up although the camera was facing the tank most of the ride :(
